“I am an artist because I have to be. It’s what gets me out of bed in the morning, that…. and coffee.”
“I paint every day, I sing every day, and I learn every day.”
I’ve always loved art… On my first visit to the Musée d’Orsay, I was happily checking out my favorite Impressionists when I turned a corner and came face to face with Van Gogh’s Sun Flowers! I literally burst out crying. And it wasn’t the last time something like this happened to me. But I didn’t pick up a brush or a palette knife till 2007. On our way to a Christmas party, my husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I said ” I want art classes.” That was just the beginning. I continued to study with many generous teachers. Then ongoing self education with the likes of John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla, Dan McCaw, Kevin Macpherson, Mary Cassatt, and of course, Van Gogh. Art is a solitary self exploration. When I paint, I not only get to know my subject but I get to know myself better. I want my paintings to have life and emotion. My main medium is oil and my subjects are as varied as my interests.
Painting is not Kitt’s first career. She is an accomplished singer, actress, playwright, radio personality – an arts polymath. Singing got an early start in her life. A critic once wrote “Kitt Moran can sing a song alive”. Kitt is passionate about people, animals, having fun, singing and telling a story.
Kitt and her husband, arranger, composer, lyricist and accompanist Mike Moran live in the Sun Coast of Florida’s North Port. She continues to paint, perform, write and enjoy life to its fullest.
