Coleen Henry
Having lived more than 30 years in South Florida, the tranquil, tropical themes of foliage, sea life and landscape are often featured in her work. A colorful multi-layered style of painting emphasizes detail in both watercolor and acrylic medium.
Helping paint scenery as a young person for kalamazoo, Michigan’s Civic Theatre first sparked an interest in painting big. Although she still remembers being disciplined for drawing on the walls as a young child, several years of mural work have honed her style.
Though she paints both residential and commercial murals, two of her public mural art projects in Venice are her sea and wild-life murals at the Jacaranda Public Library and a Venice historical mural on three buildings along the Venetian Waterway. A large environmental mural for the Englewood Water management District and an outdoor mural at Westcoast Church in Englewood are two more recent local additions.
Coleen has won several awards, including the Arts & Culture Alliance Muse Award for Visual Artist of 2007 and the advertising industry’s Silver Addy Award for a cover of the Venic Gulf Coast Living magazine.
